Phillies-Reds Preview
by Nicolino DiBenedetto (STATS Writer) for The Associated Press

The Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds are scuffling at the plate, and the weather didn’t help either team from beginning to solve those issues. That may be the case again. With more rain in the forecast in Cincinnati, the Phillies and Reds will first complete the middle game of this series before finishing it off later Wednesday night.

Philadelphia (6-7) is hitting .240 while averaging 3.8 runs on the season, while Cincinnati (6-7) isn’t much better with a .247 season average and 3.0 runs per game during a 1-5 stretch. That includes a 4-2 win for the Reds in Monday’s opener.

John Lannan (0-0, 2.77 ERA) knows all about the offense’s shortcomings, and he’s scheduled to start the second game. The left-hander has been backed by two total runs over his first two starts, despite solid performances. The Reds are expected to counter with Mike Leake (0-0, 6.75), and he’s struggled greatly against the Phillies. The right-hander is 0-3 with a 9.33 ERA in five career starts against them.

Unique evening slate to wrap up series in Cincinnati
by Andrew Simon for MLB.com

The Reds and Phillies will play the finale of their three-game series on Wednesday night at Great American Ball Park, but first they will have to finish their pitching duel from Tuesday night.

That game was suspended in the middle of the ninth inning, deadlocked at 0-0, and play will resume at 5:30 p.m. ET. Both teams have two hits, all singles, with starters Kyle Kendrick and Homer Bailey combining for 15 scoreless innings before giving way to the bullpens. Aroldis Chapman threw a perfect top of the ninth for the Reds, and fellow lefty Phillipe Aumont was set to enter the bottom of the frame for the Phillies to face Zack Cozart, Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips.

Cincinnati is looking for a second straight win after dropping five in a row, while Philadelphia is gunning for a fifth victory in seven games. Once the suspended game is decided, the Reds’ Mike Leake and the Phillies’ John Lannan will take the mound for the teams’ regularly scheduled contest.

I think Papelbon comes across as a bit of chickenshit for most of his comments, but the Obama line seems to me like its going to end up being the real story out of that interview.

Papelbon said he didn’t feel comfortable walking through the crowd in Ashburn Alley with his teammates during Opening Day Festivities at Citizen’s Bank Park.

"Today's day and age, has gotten so crazy. Shoot man, Obama wants to take our guns from us and everything. You got all this stuff going on, it's just a little bit insane for me, man. I'm not sure how to take it."

LOL.

What, did Papelbon want to be carrying when he came through the crowd?

Please God, let us trade this idiot come the deadline.
